Cactus Glory

I am Back :)
Finally after months of hibernation ...i  am back .......

Lots of things transpired in between ...i couldn't blog ... i must admit there was something amiss  ...i was dying to put my garden details onto 'scribe board '
Nevertheless PKK's humble garden has been abuzz with activities  .....Its completely green now :)

My cactus 'Pintoo' is my first potted plant  & the very first entrant of PKK's garden .  I brought 'Pintoo' to Chennai with me around 2008 when i finally settled with my job there .
Since cactus consumes less water  & easy to move around ,'Pintoo' had been there with me all along ,before i finally settled here in Kochi last year .

So i give 'Pintoo' a special status above all  & every year in May- June her beautiful blossoms justifies this special status : )

'Pintoo' had above ten flowers this year, it all started from one bulb now there is an entire army of them.
Finally i have completed one post WOW :)

Iam back....:) ... i have promised myself that come what may i shall devote time to blog :):)

Buzzing bees ,zooming butterflies & chirping birds dots most of my mornings ...
This year monsoon is in full swing - plenty of rain  :) :) best time of the year .
Its such a relief from scorching summer we had this year .
Next post on monsoon glory :)

Happy Gardening :)

Flowes & Herbs -SKK's garden -1

SKK's Garden Highlights - 2012

I have to admit @ Bhilai  home , there is something about the wind & sun ,that turn me into a child  :)

I turned to a lazy duckling :) :) wandering around in SKK's garden staring  at flowers , butterflies, lady buds, insects.......

I found these two flowers very attractive and my mom doused my curiosity - she explained their medicinal values as below :

Vishnukranti (Scientific name .........hmm......interesting ...thanks to wiki  :P)
Increases hair growth n memory .........(though it never worked on my brother a.k a. dinosaur , not that he swallowed this plant ;) )

Botanical name : Evolvulus alsinoides

Procedure : Its root's juice is  to be consumed

facts apart ..I totally adore these blue flowers & that's how they are featured here ....

Shreeparvathy  or   Mukkutti  :

This plant is a great remedy for loose motion, fever, healing wounds and improves immunity.

Ayurveda considers this little herb as a good medicine, used as a tonic, stimulant and in the treatment of stomachache, diabetes and asthma.

Botanical name : Biophytum sensitivum

Procedure : Its leaves are boiled with rice and served hot... :)
Again i was attracted by the bright small yellow flowers.......
